A photographic study of Silver Gulls part 7

These Silver Gulls posed in a wonderful way for my camera two weekends ago. I was on the beach at Encounter Bay at Victor Harbor on the south coast of South Australia. It was late in the afternoon, about an hour before sunset. I think this one is worth printing and mounting in a frame. I just love the clean colours of mature birds like this.

These photos of a small group Silver Gulls were taken recently on the beach of Encounter Bay near the Yilki store in Victor Harbor on the south coast of South Australia.

You can see more photos of Silver Gulls posted here on this blog in recent days.

I took these photos from the beach at Yilki on Encounter Bay, Victor Harbor, South Australia a few weeks ago. What delighted me was the colour of the water in the photo above. It was late afternoon (about an hour before sunset) which seemed to enhance the depth of the blue.

Birding in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens

A few moths ago my wife and I attended a special food fair at Norwood.  The emphasis was on South East Asian food and Chinese food in particular. Some Chinese friends of ours had especially invited us to attend. The food was magnificent and we introduced our palates to many new dishes.

After the festivities we decided to spend an hour or so in the nearby Adelaide Botanic Gardens. I had my camera at the ready because I knew from past visits that this was an excellent venue to obtain some great bird photos. This time, however, I was a little disappointed. I had a frustrating time; not many birds, my batteries ran flat and the spares were also flat. You have days like that.

I did manage to get a few photos of some of the trees and flowers shown on this page, plus a rather nice shot of a Pacific Black Duck. I guess the birds will have to wait for another day.

One thirsty parrot

Mallee Ringneck Parrot

Mallee Ringneck Parrot

This week I’ve migrated from my office to our sun room because of the heat. The office isn’t air conditioned and the sun room is lovely.

This gives me the opportunity to keep an eye on several of our bird baths.  During the hot weather the bird baths play an important role in attracting bird life to our garden.

Yesterday I had excellent views of one of our resident Mallee Ringneck parrots. It had come in to have a good drink. This one didn’t have a bath as they sometimes do. Quite a few species really start splashing the water everywhere, just like a mini-sprinkler. Don’t they know we have strict watering restrictions here in South Australia?
