Good Birding Site

I recently came across an interesting birding site on the internet. It has heaps of information about birds from all over the world. Each species has a very interesting description of the bird, its habits, size, habitat and other general information. Each species is accompanied by a good photograph of the bird.

Words and Birds

Ever wonder where bird names come from? And what they mean?

Harry over at his blog called Heraclitean Fire had fun with the dictionary recently. He discovered some interesting things about words and birds. He tells about his discoveries in a post called Birding the Dictionary.

Birds in Tasmania

If you want to see some beautiful photos of Australian birds, can I recommend the blog Birds in Tasmania?

Tasmania, the island state to the south of the Australian mainland, has a rich fauna a flora and has several species of birds only found there. I have yet to experience the delights of birding and touring Tasmania, so looking at this site is the next best thing. The site has a group of contributors who blog about their birding experiences in Tasmania. Each post is usually accompanied by a series of photos of the birds seen. These photos are always of the highest quality. Highly recommended.

I and the Bird #42

The latest edition of the carnival I and the Bird, now up to #42, has just been published on the blog called Neurophilosophy. This time the contributors (including yours truly) have been given honorary positions as crew members of Darwin’s HMS Beagle on a journey of discovering birds all over the world. I haven’t looked at any of the links yet but I am sure that there is plenty there to keep bird lovers reading for some time.

Check it out.

I and the Bird #41

The latest edition of I and the Bird comes from Melbourne, Australia – practically a next door neighbour – it’s only about an eight hour car trip from my home.

The host this time is Snail on her blog called A Snail’s Eye View. It’s about birds, nature, life and almost anything.

This edition has a particularly literary look at birds from all over the world. It’s well worth a visit.

I yes, I did get my contribution in on time for this edition.

Catch it here.
