Eurasian Coot on nest
Earlier this year on a visit to Cleland Wildlife Park in the Adelaide Hills I was delighted to see the nest of an Eurasian Coot in full view of the boardwalk through the wetlands area. From what I can recall, this is the first time I have ever seen a coot’s nest. It is quite an impressive structure.
She looks very comfy!
It was nice of her to build the nest in such a public area. Made photography so easy.
So much more obliging than those darned grebes!
Grebes are so frustrating – just when you get them in focus they dive! Enough to drive you crazy. Keep in mind that this particular Coot was in a wildlife park. While this was an open lagoon, the birds there have probably all had their wings clipped at some stage. I know – that’s cheating from a photographic viewpoint – but hey – it’s a great shot notwithstanding!
