Happy bird-day to me

Yes – it’s that time of the year again.

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY.

Had a very quiet day and didn’t do much. Bought a couple of novels to read as a treat and had a few friends visit in the evening. Didn’t go out birding despite a much cooler day after our unseasonal heat wave of the last 8 days. So I thought I’d treat everyone to a few of my favourite bird photos of the last year.

Happy birthday mate! Love the Flame Robin.

    Thanks Seb.

I chased him around for quite a while until he took pity on me and came up close and posed nicely. Bird photography is often like that – sometimes you get a good one, often you don’t.

    Happy birthday!

Those are some spectacular pictures. I’ve seen Kookaburras in zoos (I’m in the US), and it’s hard to appreciate their beauty through the fencing.

    Thanks Elizabeth,

Kookaburras are truly spectacular birds in the wild. If one is sitting on a branch near where one is having a picnic and it starts its famous laughing call, it is something you will never forget. Truly awesome.

On the other hand, they can be very sneaky hunters. I remember one many years ago in Western Australia (where they are an introduced species). It sat on a nearby branch watching me cook some sausages on a barbecue – when it was almost cooked the bird swooped down and snatched the still very hot sausage from the plate and flew off with it.

Argh! I missed this. Happy belated birthday!

Happy Bird-day, Trevor – for Monday and every day.

We’re off in a couple of weeks to Iron Range, so we’re looking for some happy bird-days, too!
